Cloud Development Operations Support - Glasgow

About us

We are a small cross-functional team of product managers, designers, hardware and software engineers developing a truly unique capability to digitise the world of chemistry.  We have an ambitious roadmap of features and capabilities that we will be deploying to our worldwide user base and are looking for someone to help make our app, and the wider system, a joy to use.

The role

The Cloud Development Operations Support will be the internal goto-person for the technical support and management of DM cloud infrastructure: the client-facing components (Google Cloud Platform) and the development cloud tools (Atlassian, Office365). Working with Development and Product Support they ensure the DM cloud infrastructure works reliably and in a performant, cost-effective manner, meeting the needs of internal and external users.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deploying, automating, maintaining, securing, monitoring, and managing GCP cloud-based production instances

  • Maintaining, securing, monitoring, and managing Atlassian and Office65 cloud-based development infrastructure for all office staff

  • Working with Development and Product teams to own Release Engineering to-, and Configuration Management of- processes on production systems

  • Aid pre-production Acceptance Testing to help assure the quality of our products / services

  • System troubleshooting and problem solving across platform and application domains

  • First-line application technical support for QA and Production instances

  • Generate and maintain a set of usage statistics for users of the DigitalGlassware system

  • Generate, maintain, and seek performance and cost-reductions in a defined set of Cloud Resource usage reports

Key Skills & Experience

  • DevOps: Solid experience as a DevOps Engineer in a GCP or similar Cloud environment supporting distributed global sites

  • Scripting Skills: Strong scripting and automation skills in Python and / or bash

  • Programming Languages: exposure to Java, JavaScript desirable, Kotlin / Android App developer advantageous

  • Operating Systems: Windows and Linux system administration

  • Platforms: GCP, Debian Linux (ARM, Intel)

  • Technologies: SQL (MySQL), version control (Git), GCP technologies, including, but not limited to: StackDriver, Deployment Manager, AppEngine, Compute Engine, and PubSub

  • Problem Solving: Ability to analyze and resolve complex infrastructure resource and application deployment issues.

  • Methodologies: CI, Agile

  • Way of thinking: Start-up, can-do
